RES members are invited to propose names for both the RES Council (for the period Spring 2026–2031) and for President-Elect for Spring 2027–2028, then President 2028–2029. The latter will follow Professor Diane Coyle, who has been confirmed as President-Elect 2026–2027 and President 2027–2028.
Any member of RES who would like to make a nomination should email the Elections Officer, Professor Melanie Jones, at resoffice@res.org.uk by 13 October 2025. You can view the current Council membership and list of former Presidents on the RES website.
When making a nomination, please provide the nominator’s full name and affiliation, the nominee’s full name and affiliation, a short CV summary or a link to their online CV, and a statement of up to 250 words outlining the qualities the nominee would bring to Council. The statement can be submitted by either the nominee or the proposer. The candidate must have indicated their willingness to stand. Self-nominations for Council are welcome.
Each year, Council issues guidance to the Nominations & Appointments (N&A) Committee on areas where greater representation is sought. For the 2026 Council election, Council has requested:
- Two ballot places (one Council seat) be reserved for candidates residing outside the UK;
- Continued emphasis on geographical diversity (particularly the North of England and Northern Ireland), gender balance and representation across institutions and sectors.
The RES Nominations and Appointments (N&A) Committee will meet in early November 2025 to consider all nominations received. All those nominated will be placed on the ballot unless the number of eligible nominations is excessively large. In this case, the Committee reserves the right to reduce the list at its discretion, subject to the above guidance, with reasons reported to Council.
Six Council members will be elected via a ballot in early-2026. The Committee will also make a recommendation for President-Elect, to be ratified by Council and then formally adopted at the Society’s 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
For further information, please contact Prof Melanie Jones at RESoffice@res.org.uk.
