Leighton has spent the past 25 years in roles spanning academic and clinical research, policy and education, including leadership positions in the private and charitable sectors.
Leighton is a Governor of the University of Northampton and has previously served as Treasurer for The Evidence Quarter (a hub for the UK What Works Centres) and as a Trustee for the Foundation for Professionals in Services for Adolescence and for the British Institute of Radiology. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Voluntary Sector Management from Cass Business School and a Diploma in Charity Management from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Marie-Luiza oversees the development and delivery of the Society’s key programmes and outreach for its members and potential members. She is the staff strategic lead on Diversity, Inclusion and Professional Conduct. As well as staff strategic lead on the Professional Development & Education, Conference and Women’s Committees. Marie-Luiza has an extensive background as a senior manager within the charity sector specialising in new projects around organisational change and workforce development.

Georgina manages the RES Annual Conference as well as the Society’s professional development events, she also oversees the RES Doctoral Training Programme.
Georgina has worked in event management within the not-for-profit sector for many years, more recently at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. She is experienced in coordinating complex, large-scale conferences. Georgina has a background in marketing and design and holds a BA in silversmithing.

Megan manages The Sustainable and Resilient Growth Pathways programme. She works with key project stakeholders and oversight groups to to deliver the main programme activities which include the programme’s special publication, conference and workshop.
Megan has a programme management background having previously delivered conservation, policy and biodiversity based projects. They have nine years experience working with international partners to deliver a variety of plant conservation activities.

Sam is Senior Campaign Manager for Discover Economics, working to attract the brightest and best students to the subject irrespective of their background. He holds a BA in Economics from Newcastle University and has previously worked in the charitable sector, a secondary school and at an EdTech organisation. He is a Non Executive Director for the Linskill and North Tyneside Community Development Trust, a school governor and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Giorgia is Programme Manager for Discover Economics, coordinating the delivery of outreach activities and managing relationships with partners and stakeholders. She has over 12 years’ experience in programme and partnership management. Before joining RES, she worked at Age UK supporting national grant-funded programmes, and previously managed international education and literacy programmes at Book Aid International across more than 30 countries. Her work has focused on building effective partnerships, strengthening programme delivery and using monitoring and evaluation to support learning and impact. Alongside her programme experience, Giorgia has a STEM background, with an MSc in Geophysical Hazards & Disaster Risk Reduction from UCL and a BSc (Hons) in Geosciences from The Open University.

Brooke joined the Royal Economic Society from the College of Optometrists where she managed the journal Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics and commissioned and collaborative research projects. Prior to that she was a higher education policy researcher. Brooke holds a BA in English Literature and History of Art and an MA and PhD in History and Theory of Art and Design.

Jared has worked in communications and marketing across the mining and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and the UK. He has experience in strategic communications, digital engagement and brand development, and has led initiatives to strengthen membership and public outreach. He holds degrees in Journalism and Economics.

Sandy is leading on partnership development. She has a background in International Development and Climate Action, and has worked for Amnesty International IS, Progressio, Global Greengrants Fund UK, Global Canopy. She brings a wealth of experience building new projects and partnerships across the board with Trusts, Foundations, Corporates, to increase social impact with a strong commitment to widen participation and strengthen engagement. She has spent time living and working abroad in Japan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Cameroon and brings a global perspective with cultural sensitivity. Sandy loves travelling, sports, being outdoors and running to keep up with her two children.

Jim has a background in operations management and business leadership from work in the education and charity sectors. At RES he is responsible for day-to-day operations and will be developing RES policies.

Iara holds a first class BA in Journalism from the Methodist University of Piracicaba, Brazil. She is currently studying for an AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting, and previously worked at The Nautical Institute as their Finance Assistant Manager.
