The Economic Journal appoints new Editor Alexander Willén

The Economic Journal is delighted to announce the appointment of Alexander Willén as Editor from August 2026.

Alexander Willén is Professor of Economics at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). His research studies how labor markets and workplaces shape inequality, mobility, and economic outcomes over the life course.

He joined NHH in 2018 as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2021. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy Analysis from Cornell University, an MPP in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a BA from Durham University. Alexander Willén has served on the Editorial Board of the Review of Economic Studies since 2025.

“The Economic Journal has a very long and important history in the profession, and I am honored to be joining the editorial team. I also recognize the importance of this responsibility, and I am humbled by the task,” Willén said. 

The Editorial Board of The Economic Journal includes the Editor-in-Chief, the Special Issues Editor, the RES Data Editor, and eight Editors.
