Call for Nominations: RES Council and President-Elect

RES members are invited to nominate candidates for election to the RES Council for a five-year term from summer 2027 to summer 2032 and for the role of President-Elect (2028–2029), who will subsequently serve as President (2029–2030). The successful candidate will succeed Prof. Sarah Smith, who has been confirmed as President-Elect for 2027–2028 and will serve as President in 2028–2029.

Members are encouraged either to nominate another member or to self-nominate by completing a nomination form:

Council nominations must include a CV, a short supporting statement and the support of two RES members before they can be considered by the Nominations & Appointments Committee.

For the 2027 Council elections, two places on the ballot (representing one Council seat) will be reserved for a non-academic candidate, and two places on the ballot (representing one Council seat) will be reserved for an Early Career Researcher.

The call for nominations closes on 19 October 2026. The Nominations & Appointments Committee will meet in November 2026 to consider all nominations received. The Committee will determine:

  • the ballot for the 2027 Council elections
  • the Committee’s nomination for President-Elect.

Following election and the formal approval of members at the Society’s 2027 AGM, the successful Council candidates will take up their places on Council and the President-Elect nominee will be confirmed. A list of current Council members and former Presidents is available on the RES website.
