Our annual training school, supported by the University of Bristol and ESRC/UKRI, provides advanced training to enhance the understanding of current economic issues.
The 2024 Easter School will again be hosted by the University of Bristol and will be an in-person event on Monday 8 April – Wednesday 10 April 2024. We are delighted to announce this year’s school topic: International Economics and Trade

The RES Easter Training School is an in-person event at a University campus. The school consists of guest lectures, presentations by participants and policy sessions over three days along with a social element to allow for networking.
The Easter Training School brings together and encourages interactions among advanced postgraduate students doing doctoral research, (but younger lecturers and postdoctoral researchers are also welcome) and economists in research and policymaking institutions. (See more below on target audience)
Participants are welcome to submit a paper or similar to present at the School. Presentation slots (and possibly posters) will then be assigned by the organisers, subject to availability.
Professor | University of Cambridge
Meredith A. Crowley is a Professor of Economics at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow of St. John’s College Cambridge, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR – London). Her research focuses on international trade, multinational trade agreements, and trade policy. Dr. Crowley received her MPP from Harvard University and her PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Professor | Economics at Sciences Po (Paris)
Isabelle’s research is in international trade and macroeconomics and has been published in journals such as Econometrica, the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economics and Statistics, etc. She is also a member of the French Council of Economic Experts and a managing editor at Economic Policy. In 2017, she received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council for a project on firm networks in international markets.
Target group:
The RES Easter School is intended for advanced postgraduate students doing doctoral research, (but younger lecturers and postdoctoral researchers are also welcome) and economists in research and policymaking institutions, who have approximately three to five years’ experience since initial graduation.
It enables study and discussion with an internationally recognised expert in the topic over the three days of the course.
12 October: Application form is made available.
Within the application form, applicants are invited to submit a paper/abstract/draft paper for consideration – these can be presented within a session or via the poster at the training school.
30 November: Applications close and submissions are reviewed by a small panel at the host institution.
Late December: Outcome emails are sent to all applicants and those who are successful are invited to confirm their place at the training school.
Those that submitted a paper/abstract for review will also be accepted/declined to present a paper or poster at the school.
January: Payment requests are sent (see fees and financial support below).
March: Final Training School programme circulated which includes presentation slots.
April: RES Easter Training School at University of Bristol

Non-Member fee: £800

*Members who are accepted to take part in the RES Easter Training School will be required to pay a £180.00 refundable fee to secure their place. The fee will be refunded after they have attended the school.
