RES Annual Conference: Special Session Application

The RES Conference is an annual opportunity for academics and non-academic economists to present, discuss research and develop new connections.

A Special Session is a specially contributed session at the RES Annual Conference, there are a limited number of Special Sessions and so we encourage you to ensure your proposal form is as complete and accurate as possible, so the Programme Chairs have all the details they need before allocating sessions to the programme.

Typically, a Special Session includes all or some of the following elements:

  • A session with 2-4 presenters
  • Presenters and corresponding discussants
  • Paper presentation(s) and discussion
  • An interactive session with feedback from the audience
  • A topical panel
  • A single/key invited speaker who is an expert on a current topic.

Special Session are 75 minutes in length, please bear this in mind when designing your session.

Application Process

There are 2 routes to submit a Special Session, a description of both are detailed below. You can apply for a Special Session at anytime. Applications for RES 2027 Annual Conference close on Monday 18 January 2027.

A sponsored or self-funded application requires the lead/host organisation to submit an application by the 18 January 2027.  Apply

Successful applications are required to:

  • Provide final session details and presenter information in March for inclusion in the programme
  • Submit a logo for display on the conference website and in the conference programme
  • Allow for their special session to be featured in the RES eNews ahead of the conference
  • Cover the cost of conference tickets, travel and accommodation for their presenters and chair.

Applications are reviewed by the RES Conference Programme Chair. 

The RES have a small fund ready to support those who would like to provide a special session but need assistance with conference attendance. Apply

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Provide final session details and presenter information by mid March for inclusion in the programme.

To support successful applicants, the RES will provide complimentary one day conference tickets (no socials) for 3 presenters and 1 chair (4 total) to help attend the conference. In addition, there is are funds available to cover travel for presenters and chair, please review the RES Expense Policy.

You can apply at any time, however, applications will only be considered for the 2027 RES Conference at this time. The deadline for the 2027 Conference is Monday 18 January 2027.
