Professor Javorcik an international trade economist interested mainly in empirical work on policy-relevant questions. Her research programme focuses on identifying the policies through which developing countries can use international integration to facilitate their economic growth. Javorcik’s research examines the determinants and consequences of inflows of foreign direct investment, the implications of services liberalization for productivity growth, and ways of combating the evasion of import tariffs. She has also investigated links between exporting and firm performance and strategies multi-product firms use to compete in international markets. In her research, she has used data from many Eastern European countries, Mexico, China, India and Indonesia
Sargan Lecture 2027
Professor Schorfheide is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and has been a Visiting Scholar at several central banks. He serves as an Associate Editor for Econometrica, the Journal of Monetary Economics, and Quantitative Economics.
Professor Schorfheide conducts research in econometrics and macroeconomics. Much of his econometric works has focused on the problem of model evaluation and selection in situations in which some or all models under consideration are potentially misspecified. This research is motivated by the need for econometric methods that are suitable to analyze modern macroeconomic models, such as dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models. His research provides a set of tools that are useful for empirical work with modern macroeconomic models, including forecasting and policy analysis. He applied these methods to analyze the sources of business cycle fluctuations and to study the effects of monetary policy. (See the Research section of his personal page for detailed information.)
Schorfheide currently advises various regional Federal Reserve Banks in regard to the use of DSGE models and Vector Autoregressions for forecasting and policy analysis.
RES Presidential Address 2027
Imran is a Professor of Economics at University College London, Director of the Centre for the Microeconomic Analysis of Public Policy at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and Co-Director of the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre on Wealth Concentration, Inequality and the Economy. In these roles he has supported policy engagement among economists, advised early career researchers, and brought together research and education on the study of wealth concentration and economic inequality. He has served as a President, Council Member and Trustee of the Royal Economic Society and previously chaired the RES Publications Committee from 2018-21.

Ricardo Lagos is currently an Associate Professor of Economics at New York University. His research in macroeconomics, labour, financial, and monetary economics has been published in several journals, including American Economic Review, Econometrica, International Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Theory, and Review of Economic Studies. He currently serves as Associate Editor of Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Monetary Economics, and Review of Economic Dynamics, and has served as Associate Editor of Economica. Ricardo received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. He has worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the London School of Economics, as an Assistant Professor of Economics at New York University, and as a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He is a regular Visiting Professor at Universidad Di Tella (Argentina), and has been a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of Cleveland, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis.
