The Black Economist Network: Exploring a PhD in Economics

Stefania Paredes Fuentes, Diversity Champion at the RES, and The Black Economists Network (TBEN) are co-organising a workshop on careers in academia.

The workshop is taking place on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 June from 4pm-6pm. On 16 June, the workshop will feature a panel on A Career in Economics: Different Pathways. The panel will be moderated by Stefania Paredes Fuentes and the panellists are Luisa Affuso (Chair Economist at OFCOM), Alvin Birdi (Bristol, Director of the Economics Network), Denise Hawkes (Greenwich, Chair of RES Education & Training Committee), Mike Brewer (Chief Economist, Resolution Foundation) and Almudena Sevilla (UCL, RES Chair of Women’s Committee).

Thursday 17 June will feature a session on “Access to PhD and Funding Opportunities”. This session will look at PhD programmes and available funding. The session will provide insights for TBEN members on the application process and on the selection criteria for funding.

The Black Economists Network (TBEN) is an organisation dedicated to providing a platform through which professionals and students of Black African and Caribbean descent in economics can connect, collaborate, share ideas and support each other. For more on TBEN’s work follow this link.
