Tera Allas CBE appointed Ambassador for UK Women in Economics Network

RES is delighted to announce that Tera Allas CBE has been appointed as Ambassador for the UK Women in Economics Network (UK WEN).

Tera is Director of Research and Economics in McKinsey’s United Kingdom and Ireland office, working closely with the McKinsey Global Institute. She leads McKinsey’s research on the macroeconomic outlook, growth, and productivity, bringing together deep expertise and more than three decades of experience in strategy, corporate finance, economics, and public policy.

She is a frequent author, panellist, and speaker, and serves on the Trustee Board of the Royal Economic Society. In 2018, Tera was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to economic policy.

Tera commented, “I am delighted to become UK WEN’s first Ambassador, to support this vital work to advance gender diversity in economics. This network brings together economists from a wide range of sectors, with the aim of supporting the progression and influence of women in the discipline. Broadening diversity in economics is critical for tackling the challenges society faces, and to do that, individuals need to feel inspired, supported and empowered to drive their careers forward. WEN can play a key role in delivering on these aspirations.”

Almudena Sevilla, Chair of the UK WEN added, “We are so thrilled to have Tera on board as Ambassador for the UK WEN. As such an accomplished and recognised economist, she will be a real inspiration to our members and partners”.

The mission of the UK WEN is to support career development of UK-based women in economics across different fields by monitoring representation, by providing support for women in their careers as economists, and by enhancing the visibility of women economists and their interests across all sectors.

UK WEN is open to all and there is no membership fee. Please sign up to our mailing list if you are interested in hearing about future events organised by UK WEN.

We are also looking for volunteers and experienced economists from all backgrounds who would be interested in supporting UK WEN by acting as speakers at our future events or mentors to women in early careers, or lead one of our proposed initiatives. If you are interested in being involved in such a capacity, please indicate your interest when joining the mailing list.
