The Royal Economic Society (RES) is pleased to announce that The Economic Journal will publish special issues from late 2025.

Papers published in the special issues (or in special sections of regular issues) will be high quality, themed, focused on questions of high relevance to society and academia, subject to fast editorial turnaround processes, with content generated through open calls.

RES President Prof Sir Christopher Pissarides said: “The Economic Journal Special Issues will provide new publishing opportunities to a wider set of RES members, including younger ones, and to the profession at large. This initiative will further our strategic priorities to bring communities of economists together and develop the next generation of economists.”

Alberto Bisin, Professor of Economics at New York University has been appointed as the inaugural Special Issues Editor effective from September 2024.

Professor Bisin is an elected fellow of the Econometric Society and the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, and a fellow of NBERCESS at NYU, and CEPR. His main academic interests are historical, social, financial, and behavioural economics. He has previously served as Associate Editor at the Journal of Economic Theory and the Journal of Comparative Economics and co-edited the Handbook of Social Economics and the Handbook of Historical Economics.

Professor Bisin commented: “I am delighted to join The Economic Journal and to work with the editorial board on this new initiative to grow the Journal and build upon its global reputation for publishing high-quality, imaginative economic research in all fields of economics for a broad readership.”

The Economic Journal is one of the founding journals of modern economics. Since 1891 the journal has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence as a general interest journal.
