The Royal Economic Society is proud to announce that the 2022 Rybczynski economics essay prize by the Society of Professional Economics (SPE) is now open.

The SPE started the prize in 2000 in memory of Tadeusz Rybczynski, an eminent economist and former Society Chairman.

This year’s prize is sponsored by KPMG with a prize of £5,000, which will be awarded at the Society’s 2022 Annual Dinner on Monday 20 June 2022.

The Rybczynski Prize is awarded to the best piece of writing on economics, as judged by the SPE Council (with assistance from specialist readers where appropriate).  The judges look for high-quality submissions on an important real world economic issue which merits wide attention among professional economists. The style of the piece should make it accessible and interesting to an economically literate business audience.

The essay must be submitted by 1 May 2022 and should not have been published before 1 January 2021 i.e., this prize is for work written and/or published between the start of the calendar year 2021 and the closing date.

The judges will be looking for around 3000 (with an absolute maximum of 4000) well-written words. Click here to download the entry form. Terms and conditions can be found here.
