The Royal Economic Society is deeply concerned by reports that an academic economist has been publicly harassed at a London university because they are Israeli.
Targeting an individual in this manner is unacceptable. It undermines the safety and dignity of members of the academic community and has no place in a university setting.
The Society stands firmly against discrimination of any kind. All staff and students, regardless of personal characteristics, should be able to work and participate in university life free from harassment.
We are in direct contact with the individual concerned and with the university, and we welcome the university’s swift action to help ensure a safe environment for all.
