The Royal Economic Society recently hosted the RES Summit 2024 on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Jobs’, with nearly 400 registrations. The webinar, which took place on Wednesday 6 November, was exceptionally well received, with 95% of attendees rating the event as either Excellent or Good.
Participants had the opportunity to hear from eight leading experts in their respective fields: Professor Nava Ashraf (LSE), Professor Sir Christopher Pissarides (LSE), Professor Anton Korinek (University of Virginia), Dr Stefania Paredes Fuentes (University of Southampton), Professor Jolene Skordis (UCL), Dr Daniel Susskind (University of Oxford), Dr Petar Stankov (Royal Holloway, University of London) and Dr Jadrian Wooten (Virginia Tech).
The event was divided into two parts. The first featured a panel of academics who have conducted extensive research on the impact of AI on work, skills and wellbeing. This panel was chaired by Professor Kirsten Sehnbruch. The second part, chaired by Professor Cloda Jenkins, focused on teaching AI in the economics classroom.
One of the panellists, Dr Petar Stankov, expressed his satisfaction with the event, seeing it as a valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between AI and education:
