We are deeply saddened by the death of our Immediate Past President Prof Nicholas Crafts. Nick served as RES President for the year 2022-2023 and was a much-valued member of the Society’s Trustee Board and Council.
Over many decades Nick generously shared his time and stellar knowledge of economic history with colleagues and students and in public service. More than that, he was a kind and generous man. We shall all miss Nick’s wise counsel, sharp wit and good humour and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Nick was awarded a CBE for services to economics in 2014, was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1992, was a Fellow of the Cliometrics Society and the Economic History Association and a Past President of the Economic History Society. He was a Governor of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.
