RES Medal for Services to the Economics Profession

The RES Medal for Services to the Economics Profession is awarded annually to recognise an individual who has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the economics profession in one or more of three dimensions: promoting economics, supporting economists, improving diversity.

The judging panel comprises the RES President (Chair), three Council members and an Early Career Researcher (ECR) who are responsible for shortlisting candidates and selecting a winner. The Medal, which is a non-monetary award, is typically awarded at the RES Annual Conference.

Nominations open on 8 October 2026 and should be received by 5pm on 9 December 2026.

Please complete the online nomination form and provide:

  • A supporting statement (maximum two pages) explaining how the nominee has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the economics profession in one or more of the areas listed below;
  • The nominee’s CV;
  • A short biography of the nominee.
 

The supporting statement must be supported by one additional person. The supporter does not need to be an RES member.

The supporting statement should demonstrate how the nominee has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the economics profession in one or more of the following areas. The examples below are intended as guidance and are not exhaustive.

Promoting Economics

• Improving public understanding of economics
• Building links between economics and other disciplines
• Applying economics to wider economic, social or policy challenges
 

Supporting Economists

• Teaching and mentoring
• Contributions to professional bodies
• Reviewing grant applications
• Supporting policy consultations
• Other activities that strengthen and support the profession

Improving Diversity

• Improving understanding of the causes of underrepresentation within the profession
• Taking practical steps to address underrepresentation
• Supporting initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in economics
To make a nomination:
  • The nomination must demonstrate how the nominee has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the economics profession.
  • You must be a current RES member.
  • Your nominee must be UK-based (working primarily in the UK at the time of nomination).
  • Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • Institutional or personal interests relating to the nominee should be declared.
