Members of the public are invited along to our series of early evening events on topical issues. Running alongside our 2019 Annual Conference at the University of Warwick, the three panel events will explore how economics can provide insight into public policy.
This year RES Presents will look at how economics can be communicated, where Brexit is taking us and how universities and businesses can work together.
Each meeting will feature a panel of speakers plus a chair. Each speaker gets a maximum of five minutes for opening remarks. The rest of the event is given over to a general discussion and plenty of Q&A.
Monday 15 April 2019, 6pm-7.15pm – How can economics be better communicated and discussed?

The study of economics provides valuable knowledge into our society. Yet it is often referred to as the “dismal science” and criticised for its reliance on mathematical models and predictions. This public debate will consider how public engagement in economics can be encouraged to help to build a better understanding of our world. It will discuss how economics is taught and studied and how Economists engage and communicate.

The UK is leaving the European Union but what will life outside it mean for us? This public debate will explore the different options available to the UK and our future relationship with the EU.

Universities provide world leading research and educate the workforce of tomorrow. They also produce technological innovation and support local and national businesses. This public debate will consider the role of universities and businesses in fostering economic growth in cities and regions and how they can improve their contributions to local development.
