RES launches the Resilient Growth Pathways Programme
The Resilient Growth Pathways programme is a new Royal Economic Society programme funded by the Open Society Foundations.
As climate change and biodiversity loss create growing economic and policy challenges, the programme will bring together economists and policymakers to explore approaches to sustainable and resilient economic growth. It will provide a platform for experts from emerging economies to have a stronger role in shaping responses to climate change and biodiversity loss.
Workshops and conferences, delivered in partnership with regional experts and institutions, will form the core of the programme. Research, ideas and policy questions emerging from the programme will inform a supporting publication, demonstrating the case for high-quality economic analysis in informing effective, sustainable and resilient growth policies. It will showcase current thinking, draw on case studies, highlight nascent research areas and capture insights generated through the programme for a wider audience.
The programme will be delivered by an international Steering Group chaired by Prof Robin Burgess (London School of Economics), Co-Founder and Director of the International Growth Centre and Director of the Economics of Environment and Energy Research Programme.
RES Chief Executive Leighton Chipperfield said: “This programme demonstrates the RES’s ability to convene economists from around the world to tackle one of the defining issues of our time. We look forward to working with and learning from local economists and policy makers in this endeavour.”
The first programme convening will take place in Indonesia in the first half 2027. Work on the programme is now underway, with further details on the convening, publication and opportunities to participate to be shared over the coming weeks.
