Oxford University Press to publish the journals of the Royal Economic Society from 2019

Oxford University Press and the Royal Economic Society are pleased to announce that OUP will publish the society's two journals, The Economic Journal and The Econometrics Journal, from January 2019, and provide online access to the digital editions including their archives.

The Royal Economic Society is one of the oldest economic associations in the world. It is a learned society founded in 1890 to promote the study of economic science.

The Economic Journal, first published in 1891, is one of the founding journals of modern economics. It provides a platform for high quality and imaginative economic research, publishing papers in all fields of economics for a broad international readership.

The Econometrics Journal was established in 1998 to promote the general advancement of econometric methods and techniques and their application to problems of relevance to modern economics.

Both journals are currently published by Wiley Blackwell.

"We're tremendously excited that the journals of the Royal Economic Society are moving to OUP. The Economic Journal and The Econometrics Journal will fit extremely well with our very high-quality economics journals programme. I look forward to working with the Royal Economic Society and the journal editors to build on their success and to help them increase their profile and audience worldwide," said Martin Green, senior publisher at Oxford University Press.

“We are looking forward to working with OUP in publishing the society''s two journals, which are real leaders in our discipline”, said Lord Nicholas Stern, president of the Royal Economic Society. “OUP is an ideal publisher for our journals. It has a portfolio of economics journals in which The Economic Journal and The Econometrics Journal fit very well. OUP''s expertise, distribution and promotion of our two titles will be of great value. OUP is well placed to help us build on the journals' excellent reputation and ensure they remain an invaluable source for anyone interested in economic issues.”

Morten O. Ravn, joint managing editor of The Economic Journal said, “The Economic Journal is thrilled at the prospect of working with OUP. The Economic Journal is one of the leading general interest journals in economics and aims to publish the highest quality and most imaginative research. OUP will without doubt be the perfect partner in this endeavour.”

“The Econometrics Journal aims at the rapid dissemination of original contributions to econometrics with demonstrable value to applied research in economics,” said the journal''s managing editor, Jaap Abbring. “It has recently been leading the field in bringing down review times and improving replicability. The editors are looking forward to teaming up with OUP to further improve the experience for our authors and our readers and to make The Econometrics Journal the outlet of choice for econometric research that matters.”

OUP is delighted to add the journals of the Royal Economic Society to its portfolio.
