The Economic Journal is delighted to announce the appointment of three new Editors this spring. Esteban M. Aucejo and Marta Serra-Garcia joined the Editorial Board in April and Pauline Grosjean will join from 1 May 2026.
Esteban M. Aucejo is Professor of Economics at Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business. He is a labor and education economist whose research examines how students, teachers, and institutions make decisions, and how those decisions shape educational outcomes and inequality. He is affiliated with the Centre for Economic Performance, CESifo, and the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research has been published in journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, The Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics, and the Review of Economics and Statistics.
Pauline Grosjean is a Professor in the School of Economics at UNSW Sydney, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. Her research studies the historical context of economic development. In particular, she focuses on how culture and institutions interact and shape long-term economic development and individual behaviour. She has published research that studies the historical process of a wide range of underlying factors of economic development, including cooperation and violence, trust, gender norms, support for democracy and for market reforms, immigration, preferences for education, and conflict.
Marta Serra-Garcia is the Phyllis and Daniel Epstein Chancellor’s Endowed Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor of Economics and Strategy at the Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego. Her research examines the economics of informed societies: How can we build an informed public with the right level of trust when attention is scarce, incentives reward engagement over accuracy, and people have limited cognitive resources? Using experiments, theory, and computational methods, she studies how incentives shape what gets produced and amplified online and how these information environments shape knowledge gaps, biased beliefs, and trust in AI. Her work has been published in journals including the American Economic Review, Management Science, and Psychological Science.
Professor Francesco Lippi, Editor-in-Chief of The Economic Journal, said the appointments reflect the Journal’s continued ability to attract leading scholars and strengthen its editorial expertise.

Their combined expertise, spanning education and labour economics, behavioural and experimental economics, and the political economy of culture and institutions, reflects the breadth and ambition that has long defined the Journal’s mission. I look forward to the fresh perspectives and scholarly rigour they will bring,” he said.
The Editorial Board of The Economic Journal includes the Editor-in-Chief, the Special Issues Editor, the RES Data Editor, and nine Editors.
The Royal Economic Society and the Editorial Board of The Economic Journal would also like to express appreciation to two Editors completing their terms at the Journal this summer: Sascha O. Becker (Professor, University of Warwick and Xiaokai Yang Chair of Business and Economics, Monash University) and Steffen Huck (Research Professor Behavioral Economics and Human Agency, WZB and Emeritus Professor, UCL). Sascha and Steffen are excellent editors and colleagues and provided an outstanding service to the Journal for three and six years, respectively. The EJ Board and the Society thank them both for their commitment and contributions to the Journal.
