Iván Fernández-Val appointed Co-editor of The Econometrics Journal

The Royal Economic Society is delighted to announce that as of May 2025, Iván Fernández-Val has joined Raffaella Giacomini, Christoph Rothe and Petra Todd as a new Co-editor of The Econometrics Journal. Iván is a Professor of Economics at Boston University and was an Associate Editor of the Journal from 2012 to 2024. His research interests lie in theoretical and applied econometrics. He has worked on panel data and causal inference methods with applications to labor economics and other fields such as the study of the gender wage gap.

Iván succeeds Dennis Kristensen, whose final term expired on 1 May. Dennis has been with The Econometrics Journal for many years. He joined as one of the Journal’s first Associate Editors in 2007 and has been serving it as a Co-editor since 2015. He played a key part in developing and implementing the Journal’s current editorial policy to publish focused contributions to econometrics with applied relevance, following quick review that avoids multiple and major revisions. Dennis expertly handled many submissions in financial econometrics, on panel data, and in many other areas of econometrics. The editors and the Society would like to express gratitude and appreciation for his dedicated editorial service.

Ivan stated: “I am very honoured to join the editorial team of The Econometrics Journal. The Journal plays a vital role in advancing econometric research with practical relevance, and I look forward to contributing to its mission of publishing high-quality, impactful work. I am also grateful for the opportunity to continue the excellent editorial work of Dennis Kristensen, whose service has been exemplary.”

The Econometrics Journal was established by the Royal Economic Society in 1998 to promote the general advancement and application of econometric methods and techniques to problems of relevance to modern economics.
