The Royal Economic Society is delighted to announce that Flávio Cunha has joined the Editorial Board of The Econometrics Journal from 1 May 2026. Flávio joins Iván Fernández-Val, Raffaella Giacomini, and Christoph Rothe as Editors.
Flávio Cunha is the Ervin K. Zingler Chair of Economics at Rice University and Director of the Center for Economic Mobility at the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. His research specializes in labor economics, focusing on human capital formation over the lifecycle. His contributions have been recognized with the Frisch Medal from the Econometric Society and the Aigner Award from the Journal of Econometrics.
Iván succeeds Petra Todd, who has completed her editorial term at the Journal. The Editorial Board and Society would like to express gratitude and appreciation to Petra for seven years of editorial service.
Flávio Cunha said he welcomed the opportunity to join the Journal and build on its strong editorial foundations.
“I’m delighted to be joining The Econometrics Journal as an Editor. Petra Todd’s contributions to the Journal in structural and applied microeconometrics have set a high standard, and I’m looking forward to working with Dennis Kristensen, the editorial team, and the broader community to continue supporting careful, consequential research in structural econometrics and beyond,” he said.
Dennis Kristensen, Editor-in-Chief, said he was delighted to have Flávio join the team.
“I am delighted that Flávio has agreed to join the editorial team of The Econometrics Journal. Flavio uses rigorous econometric methods to answer important economic questions, particularly the origins of inequality and the role of early-life investments in shaping cognitive and noncognitive skills. As such, his research agenda aligns well with the Journal’s editorial policy. I look forward to working with Flávio,” he said.
The Econometrics Journal was established by the Royal Economic Society in 1998 to promote the general advancement and application of econometric methods and techniques to problems of relevance to modern economics. The Journal is overseen by Editor-in-Chief Dennis Kristensen and the Editors. The Editorial Board also includes Associate Editors, first-rate econometricians from around the world who act as ambassadors, advisors and referees.
