First UK WEN Champion

We are delighted to announce that the University of Exeter Business School has become our first UK Women in Economics Network (UK WEN) Champion! This means Exeter Business School is investing in the career development of UK-based women in economics and helping to improve gender representation in the discipline. We are hugely grateful to have this support which is vital to the ongoing activities of the network.

Professor Loukas Balafoutas, Head of the Economics Department at the University of Exeter Business School said, “We at the Department of Economics and the University of Exeter Business School are proud to be the first UK WEN Champion! Through this partnership we aim to support the activities of the UK Women in Economics Network, which – along with other initiatives such as Discover Economics, the Diversity & Inclusion network, and the Active Bystander initiative – can be a catalyst for change in our profession and help us build a truly inclusive and respectful environment for all.

Our Champion status is a recognition of our focus on investing in the career development of UK-based women in Economics and drive to improve gender representation in the discipline. The status will enable us to elevate this work, bring more external speakers, host WEN events, and encourage further action.

By joining forces with UK WEN, we can help pave the way for a more diverse, equal, and thriving landscape in Economics. We hope to be joined by more departments and Schools and look forward to working together within the UK WEN network!”

As a UK WEN Champion, institutions receive a number of benefits (such as speaking opportunities and allocated in-person places at UK WEN events).

This is a 12-month partnership with UK WEN at an investment of £3,000. Your organisation’s brand is associated with supporting UK WEN as a champion for one year, and you have the opportunity to host a UK WEN event during the sponsorship year.

If your institution is interested in becoming a UK WEN Champion, or partnering with UK WEN in another way, please see more information on the options here. To schedule an initial discussion, contact Adam Bryan at a.bryan@res.org.uk.
