CPD Event: Progressing as a teaching-track economist & supporting teaching-track colleagues

This free workshop on 14 March 2024, 13.00-14.30, online – run for the Royal Economics Society by the Economics Network and CTaLE – is designed for economists on the teaching track and for those in roles supporting and/or assessing teaching-track colleagues, such as Heads of Departments.

EN and CTaLE will share a summary of the main findings of their recent research project on Teaching-Track Economists in Canada, the UK and the US, emphasising relevant learnings for the track in the UK. A key insight from the project is that there is some uncertainty about how to interpret promotion criteria, around education scholarship for example.

The workshop will therefore include a discussion of what scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) is, how it is understood within the UK higher education context and how to develop and evidence expertise and experience for promotion and/or applications (such as for Advance HE fellowships).

Presenters will share experience and insight from the research project and their own careers and offer practical guidance to better understand these roles and how to support and assess those in them.

If you are interested in joining the event please sign-up through this online form. You will be sent the link for the online session closer to the time.
