About this event

Think tanks are research organisations that develop ideas on a whole range of subjects affecting society. They make suggestions for action, using research, analysis and commentary to inform and influence politicians, policy makers and the public.

Given the recent economic, social and political issues facing the UK, encouraging more diversity in the world of research and policy-making is more important than ever. To contribute to this, a group of think tanks and similar organisations have joined together to hold a webinar for undergraduates about working in the think tank sector.

This event is aimed at:

• People from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups
• People with work-limiting conditions or impairments.
• Young adults with caring responsibilities (including young parents)
• Mature students
• People from lower-income backgrounds
• Care leavers

The aim of this event is to demystify the world of think tanks. It will start with an introductory session giving a broad overview of the sector, followed by a series of short panels focusing on specific topics. Attendees will be able to choose to join the panels they’re most interested in.

Topics covered will include:

• Influencing policy
• Communications, events and media
• Policy work and opportunities outside London
• A day in the life of a researcher
• Joining the sector as a career change
• Engagement in think-tanks (including the role of membership organisations and public engagement)
