RES Annual Conference: Call for Submissions

The RES Conference is an annual opportunity for academic and non-academic economists to present work, discuss research and develop new connections.

The Conference Committee welcomes submissions from anyone with a desire to present their research or work at our conference. Applications to present research at the 2027 conference open in September 2026.

Before you begin the application process, please select which presentation type is more appropriate for you:

General Sessions

These sessions are the conferences customary paper presentation sessions. General Sessions are designed for fully developed research apers that are open to peer review. Each session comprises four presentations, centred around a specific field or topic.

  • General Sessions are 75 minutes
  • Presenters are allocated 15 minutes each to deliver their paper
  • One presenter will be selected to chair the session
  • An additional 15 minutes will be allowed for Q&A, coordinated by the session chair.

All papers accepted for presentation in General Sessions will be considered for the Best Conference Paper prize.

Speed Sessions

These sessions are dynamic and faster moving than a General Session. They are designed for presentation of research which is in earlier stages of development. Presenters are encouraged to use no more than one or two slides, if any, and to approach the session as they would a job market or promotion pitch whilst focusing on the main contribution of the paper.

  • Speed Sessions are 75 minutes
  • Sessions consist of 6 presenters and time will be allocated for Q&A
  • The RES will invite a senior economist to chair all Speed Sessions (e.g. RES President or President-Elect, a Keynote Speaker).

Poster Sessions

The longest presentation time available at conference, the Poster Session provides a great opportunity to showcase your work. The session will take place during the Welcome Reception on Monday evening, where poster presenters are given 1 hour 30 minutes to discuss their research to the entire conference delegation. All presented posters will be considered for the Best Poster Prize on the night and the winner will be announced by the RES President.

  • Incomplete submissions will be auto-rejected after the submission deadline has past
  • If accepted, there will be a window of opportunity to update your paper and abstract, although no major changes will be accepted.

Papers and Posters are allocated to members of the Conference Review Committee.

The Review Committee will grade all General Session submissions in February. Poster & Speed Session submissions have a longer deadline and can be submitted up until the April.

Papers will be reviewed equally on their merit and quality and allocated to a session based on topic/field. For each general and speed session, we will aim to have presenters from a mix of career stages.

The Conference Programme Chairs thereafter have the final decision on which papers and posters are allocated a slot in the conference programme.

The RES and the RES Conference Committee are dedicated to ensuring the conference is diverse, in terms of presenters and topics.  The committee monitor and revise each programme to ensure diversity.  We are pleased to publish data on diversity from the RES 2024 Annual Conference.
