ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK)

ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) is a partnership transforming the way researchers access the UK’s wealth of public sector data, to enable better informed policy decisions that improve people’s lives.

By linking together data held by different parts of government, and facilitating safe and secure access for accredited researchers to these newly joined-up and de-identified datasets, ADR UK is creating a sustainable body of knowledge about how our society and economy function. This is tailored to give decision makers the answers they need to solve important policy questions, driving change that has the potential to improve lives across the UK.

ADR UK is made up of four national partnerships (ADR England, ADR Northern Ireland, ADR Scotland and ADR Wales), and the Office for National Statistics, which ensures data provided by UK Government bodies is accessed by researchers in a safe and secure form with minimal risk to data holders or the public. The partnership is coordinated by a UK-wide Strategic Hub, which also promotes the benefits of administrative data research to the public and the wider research community, engages with UK Government to secure access to data, and manages a dedicated research budget.

ADR UK is an investment by the Economic and Social Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation. Visit ADR UK’s website to find out more about our work.

Economics Observatory

The Economics Observatory (ECO) is a new project that bridges the gap between academic research, government policy and the general public. Our goal is to provide balanced and reliable answers to questions about the economy. We make it our mission to make these answers as accessible and engaging as possible. The ECO team are drawn from across the countries and regions of the UK, with a hub in Bristol. By publishing daily articles, videos and charts, we believe ECO can help the public and policymakers better understand the numerous challenges facing countries around the world today.

Included in the offer are notable books by Thomas Piketty, Branko Milanovic, Elizabeth O’Brien Ingleson, Eswar Prasad, Michael Klausner, Guhan Subramanian, and many more.

Now in paperback, Thomas Piketty’s A Brief History of Equality provides a perfect introduction to the ideas developed in his monumental earlier books. A Financial Times book of the year, Branko Milanovic’s Visions of Inequality: From the French Revolution to the End of the Cold War provides a sweeping and original history of how economists across two centuries have thought about inequality, told through portraits of six key figures. In Made in China: When US-China Interests Converged to Transform Global Trade, Elizabeth O’Brien Ingleson tells the surprising story of how Cold War foes found common cause in transforming China’s economy into a source of cheap labour, creating the economic interdependence that characterizes our world today. Drawing on real-life cases from a wide range of industries, two acclaimed experts offer a sophisticated but accessible guide to business deals in Deals: The Economic Structure of Business Transactions by Michael Klausner and Guhan Subramanian.

The Nuffield Foundation

The Nuffield Foundation is an independent charitable trust with a mission to advance social well-being. It funds research that informs social policy, primarily in Education, Welfare, and Justice.

The Nuffield Foundation is the founder and co-funder of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, the Ada Lovelace Institute and the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory.

The Foundation seeks to be an open, collaborative and engaged funder that offers more than money. We are not simply an academic funding body, though the research we fund must stand up to rigorous academic scrutiny. We want the policies and institutions that affect people’s well-being to be influenced by robust evidence, and the work we fund to have real impact. We will work with the research, policy and practice communities to foster an environment where that is possible.

Some issues that will determine social well-being will cut across the areas of Education, Welfare, and Justice, and may extend beyond them. Our Welfare domain is particularly focused on work, family and the intersection of the two. We are interested in funding research that takes account of the trends that are shaping today’s increasingly complex society. Our primary focus is on the UK, but this may include comparative work between countries, where the primary intention is to generate knowledge of relevance to the UK.

Designed and developed by Cambridge academics, Summatic is an online platform that supports Economics teaching with learning resources and assignments. Summatic makes it possible for academics to ask authentic quantitative economics questions which go beyond multiple-choice and covering formulas, equations, matrices, and more. Additionally, randomized question variants provide students with unlimited practice.

Student attempts are automatically and reliably marked by our system, giving students instant step-by-step feedback and provides teachers with analytics. In addition, students also have access to interactive textbooks with interactive graphical explanations alongside questions to support their learning.

At present, Summatic supports:

  • Maths for Economics (including preparation for incoming students)
  • Intermediate Microeconomics
  • Intermediate Econometrics

While courses in Intermediate Macroeconomics and Financial Economics are coming soon. We can also tailor content to your needs by uploading your questions.

Users of Summatic include Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS), National University of Singapore, University of Bristol and Ulster University. Case studies of our work with CJBS and Bristol can be found here and here.
