RES Annual Conference: Scholars Fund

The RES is dedicated to supporting PhD students

Ahead of the 2024 Conference, the RES is pleased to launch an enhanced level of support for RES members who are PhD students and attending the conference to present a paper or poster, in the form of the RES Scholars Fund. 

The fund will provide the following support and recognition:

  • Up to £300 towards travel and accommodation costs for PhD students presenting, in line with the RES Expenses Policy (maximum of 15 awards to be made)
  • RES Scholars will be named on the RES website as one of the conference years RES Scholars*
  • RES Scholars will be congratulated at the conference by the RES President*
  • RES Scholars will be recognised in the conference programme/app*.
    (*With appropriate approval from each Scholar)

Notes:

The RES further supports all students attending our conference by subsidising tickets for PhD Students who are RES members.

A PhD student is someone currently studying toward a PhD qualification, in any year of their studies. Evidence in the form of a letter or similar is required within the application.

Application Process

  1. Complete the application form by Monday 29 January
  2. Applicants should include:
    • Reference ID number of accepted paper or
    • Confirm their intent to present a poster, providing details of the topic, stage of research, poster title etc.
    • Evidence of career stage in the form of a letter or similar
  3. RES Scholars need to join the RES as a member, or purchase a bundle  conference ticket 
  4. RES Scholars need to book and pay to attend the RES conference, although not required at the point of applying to the fund
  5. Applications will be reviewed by a panel from the RES Conference Committee in February and awards made to up to 15 applicants in mid February
  6. RES Scholars will be acknowledged at the RES Conference in March*
  7. After the conference, those awarded will need to submit a certificate of attendance (available from the conference desk), as well as a completed expenses claim form (emailed to you at the point of award). Thereafter, you will be refunded your travel and accommodation (up to £300).
