Three distinguished economists with significant contributions to the Royal Economic Society have been recognised in the New Year Honours List 2025.
Dharshini David has been awarded an OBE. As the BBC’s Chief Economics Correspondent, Dharshini has previously held roles at Oxford Economic Forecasting, the Government Economic Service, and HSBC Investment Bank. She also served on the judging panel for the RES 2024 Young Economist of the Year competition.
Professor Mary Morgan has been awarded an OBE. Mary is an economist, philosopher, and historian, holding the Albert O. Hirschman Professorship of the History and Philosophy of Economics at the London School of Economics. A Fellow of the British Academy since 2002, she served as RES President (2023–2024) and is a former RES Council member and Trustee.
Professor Almudena Sevilla has been awarded a CBE. Almudena is a Professor of Economic and Social Policy at the London School of Economics and has previously held academic positions at University College London, Queen Mary University, the University of Oxford, the University of Essex, and the Congressional Budget Office in Washington, DC. She is the Founding Chair of the RES Women in Economics initiative, a former Chair of the Women’s Committee, and a current RES Council member.
