Discover Economics: Careers in Economics

On 13 July at 5:00pm, Discover Economics are hosting Discover Economics Careers.

This event will showcase the exciting and varied opportunities open to economics graduates. It is open to GCSE and A-level students in the UK.

The event will allow students to:

  • Learn about the array of careers available to those with an economics degree
  • Have the chance to ask questions of economists working in exciting jobs
  • Listen to advice on how to apply for an economics degree
  • Get an insight into what it’s like to study economics at university.

There will be speakers from the Bank of EnglandJoseph Rowntree FoundationCapital Economics and the Government Economic Service.

The agenda for the event is as follows:

  • 17:00 – 17:05 Introduction to the event and to Discover Economics from the chair
  • 17:05 – 17:10 Introduction to Economics – what the discipline is and what economists do
  • 17:10 – 17:35 Careers fair 1: 4 breakout rooms with mini-panel events exploring two different career.
  • 17:35 – 17:45 Break
  • 17:45 – 18:10 Careers fair 2: 4 breakout rooms with mini-panel events exploring two different careers.
  • 18:10 – 18:20 How to apply to university – a talk on how to apply for university
  • 18:20 – 18:40 Student experience – three students discussing their experience at university and answering pre-submitted questions
  • 18:40 – 18:45 Close
