Economist or Senior Economist, Institute for Government

Salary: £45,000 to £65,000 per annum (full-time equivalent). Exact salary will depend on skills and experience.

Working pattern: Full-time

Location: London, with the option to work from home up to two days a week.

Role Summary

We are inviting applications for an Economist or Senior Economist (depending on experience) to work as part of our public finances team and across our wider research team.

Our public finances team analyse fiscal and economic policy, and how decisions are made and implemented.

As an Economist, you will:

  • Conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
  • Develop compelling recommendations for improving the way that government operates.
  • Write about our research findings and recommendations in a range of formats.
  • Work with our events team to organise and deliver a range of public and private events.
  • Work with our partnerships team to help secure funding for elements of our work.
  • Discuss project findings in the media.


As a Senior Economist, you will have more of a leading role in all of the above, leading projects with a significant economic component and managing them from beginning to end. You will also manage more junior staff as required.

Economic Consultant, Frontier Economics 

Salary: £45,500 – £72,00 base plus bonus (Example entry package is £71,700 and example top end package is £113,500).

Location: Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, London, Dublin, London, Madrid and Paris

  • Work Management Skills: Lead workstreams, manage budget and deliverables, delegate tasks, supervise colleagues, and seek feedback.
  • Client Relationship Skills: Build relationships, network, identify opportunities, seek feedback, and help clients maximise value from our work.

Essential Requirements:

  • Expertise in Competition economics with several years of experience
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Good commercial acumen and data skills
