Consciously Inclusive Mentoring

Are you a mentor in the economics discipline, and would like to understand more about an inclusive mentoring approach?

As part of our Continuous Professional Development programme, the Royal Economic Society has developed the “Consciously Inclusive Mentoring” short programme. The goal of this programme is to provide mentors with training on inclusive mentoring practices, understanding how conscious and/or unconscious biases affect the mentor-mentee relationship.

This programme will take place between October and a future date (TBC) for the interactive session. See below for further details.

The programme comprises of two parts:

Part 1 “Understanding Consciously Inclusive Mentoring”
Self-guided. This part will be forwarded to participants on 15 October to complete by 5 November. It includes various resources (short videos and a workbook) for you to work through in your own time prior to the live training session in Part 2. It includes modules such as “Self-reflection on positive and negative experiences of being mentored, or mentoring”, and “Bringing ourselves into mentoring – the role of preferences, identities and biases in mentoring”, as well as Consciously Inclusive Mentoring Skills and Action Planning. We estimate this to require 60-90 minutes of work.
Part 2 “Becoming a Consciously Inclusive Mentor”
Online interactive session. This will take place early 2026 – date TBC.

The programme is aimed at those who are in a mentoring role or would like to deepen their understanding of being a consciously inclusive mentor for a future mentoring role.
