The purpose of the Education and Training Committee is to:
– co-ordinate and oversee the Society’s activities relating to economics education and training. Responsibility for the Societys’ scholarly publications, including its academic journals, lies with the Publications Committee.
– advise the Trustee Board on matters relating to the education and training of students studying economics at university and also on continued professional development for those working in economics.
– Liaise as appropriate with other RES committees (including the Communications & Engagement committee in relation to schools) and external bodies with an active interest in economics education and training.
Chair Education & Training Committee | Anglia Ruskin University
Denise is Professor of Education Economics and Deputy Dean Accreditations and Enhancement for the Faculty of Business and Law at Anglia Ruskin University. Denise is an applied education economist and truly multi-disciplinary, applying econometric techniques to topics from higher education transitions, equality, diversity and inclusion in higher education and the value of doctoral education.
President
Mary is the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of History and Philosophy of Economics at the London School of Economics; she is a Fellow of the British Academy (and served as Vice President 2014-8), and an Overseas Fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Deputy Chair | University of Bristol
Steven Proud is a Reader of Economics Education at the University of Bristol, and deputy chair of the Education and Training Committee. He is an editor of the International Review of Economics Education, and is an executive board member of the Economics Network, which works to enhance the quality of economics teaching and learning. Steven’s research focusses on using empirical methods to evaluate the impact of pedagogical innovations.
Alongside this, Steven regularly writes for, and is an editor for, the Economics Review, providing application of economics to real-world problems for A-level students.

Professor of Economics and Director of Research, University of Essex. Her research agenda is focused on the nature, causes, and consequences of disparities in children’s human capital that lead to inequalities later on in life.
Professor (Teaching) | University College London
Parama is Professor(Teaching) and Pro Vice Provost (Education-
Student Academic Experience) at University College London and the Director of
the Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics (CTaLE). She has extensive
experience in teaching economics (including at Oxford, Dartmouth and Yale) and
in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Parama chaired the 2022 QAA
Economics SBS and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Professor | University of Warwick
Caroline is a teaching-focused Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick, and a Fellow of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy. She has a long-standing association with The Economics Network which works to enhance the quality of university economics teaching and learning, and is currently Deputy Director of the network.
Caroline is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. Her research spans pedagogical research with a particular focus on the use of technologies in teaching, empirical education economics and industrial economics research areas.
Senior Economist | Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
Neil is a Senior Economist at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. In a long career he has advised on innovation, industrial, labour market and climate change policy. He currently leads a team of analysts working on corporate governance and company law.
He recently chaired the Trailblazer group that introduced the Level 7 (Masters) Senior Professional Economist Apprenticeship Standard and End Point Assessment. This enabled the Government Economic Service’s L7 apprenticeship programme which has around 200 starts a year.
Caroline is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. Her research spans pedagogical research with a particular focus on the use of technologies in teaching, empirical education economics and industrial economics research areas.
Associate Director | Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics (CTaLE)
Prof Cloda Jenkins is Associate Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics (CTaLE) and a member of the EEA Education Committee Her economics expertise is in the economics of markets, how to make them work more efficiently and how best to design and implement government interventions when needed. She works closely with policy makers, for example as a member of the UKRN expert advisor panel and by providing training to government Departments and regulators, to ensure
decision-making is informed by economic principles. In higher education she is passionate about ensuring that students develop skills alongside knowledge as part of their degree experience and that education policies and practices are informed by the student voice and student partnership opportunities.
Professor of Economics | University of Nottingham
Kevin is Professor of Economics at the University of Nottingham. He is an applied econometrician, specialising in the areas of model building and forecasting and using these methods in real-time decision-making, paying particular attention to the information contained in survey data.
Associate Director, Economic Consulting | Grant Thornton
Maureen Paul is the Associate Director in Economic Consulting at Grant Thornton. Maureen is passionate about making the energy markets work in the interest of existing and future energy consumers. Maureen has previously worked at Ofgem, overseeing the policy and analytical work of Ofgem’s Office for Research and Economics, with around 30 members of staff – economists, social researchers, behavioural scientists and policy experts, with wider leadership responsibilities for over 60 economists. Before joining Ofgem, Maureen worked with the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading on several market studies, Competition Act cases and mergers cases. She has a PhD in economics from the University of Warwick.
Chief Economist | Department of Justice
Alex leads the Access to Justice and Corporate Business Partnering Teams and is also the department’s Chief Economist. He started his career in the Civil Service as an Assistant Economist in Sheffield working for the DWP. Alex has been at the MoJ for eleven years and has worked on prisons estates analysis, competition analysis, legal aid, and civil and admin justice. To relax Alex likes to cook (and eat), run, and spending time with family and friends.

Marie-Luiza oversees the development and delivery of the Society’s key programmes for its members and potential members. She is staff strategic lead on Diversity and on the Education & Training, Women’s and Conference Committees. She has overall responsibility for the events, finance, elections, grants and CRM/CMS functions. Marie-Luiza has an extensive background as a senior manager within the charity sector specialising in new projects around organisational change and workforce development.

Georgina has worked in event management within the not-for-profit sector for many years, more recently at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. She is experienced in coordinating complex, large-scale conferences. Georgina has a background in marketing and design and holds a BA in silversmithing.
