On 20 October CHUDE (Conference of Heads of University Departments of Economics) held a Sponsored Session on supporting the promotion of female academic economists and encouraging Athena SWAN applications from economics departments.
The session was chaired by Dr. Emiliya Lazarova (Chair of CHUDE) and included presentations from Sally Baden (Advance HE) and Dr. Wanyu Chung (University of Birmingham, representing UK Women in Economics Network – UK WEN). Sally provided an overview of the Athena SWAN charter, discussed the current landscape of awards in Economics departments, explained the application and review process and addressed common challenges. Dr. Wanyu Chung discussed the absence of an economics-specific Athena SWAN network for sharing best practices and how UK WEN plans to address this gap.
UK WEN has gathered valuable resources, including exemplars of past successful applications and these can be found along with the event recording and presentations here.
