Conference Grant

Members can apply for up to £500 to support those who are presenting an economics-related paper at a research and/or teaching-related conference. This can contribute to conference fees, travel expenses and/or accommodation expenses.

Please note that it takes up to four weeks for you to be notified of the outcome of your application. Therefore, any events or activities taking place within the four week period after the deadline, are not eligible for funding.

This grant has now closed, and is not taking any applications at this time.

Funding is made available to support members’ attendance at a conference to present an economic paper or to act as the main speaker. Applications are welcomed for presenting at teaching-focused as well as research conferences. Awards will be limited to PhD students and early career economists (the latter including recently completed PhD students who may not be employed as economists).

Full details of the funding criteria can be found on the application form.

Members of the Society can apply for up to £500.  It must be an activity taking place within 12 months of application.  Applications are considered three times a year – with closing dates for submissions on 31 January, 31 May and 30 September.

Eligible expenditure includes conference fees, travel expenses and/or accommodation expenses. Only travel and accommodation within the RES Expenses policy will be reimbursed as eligible expenses.

Applicants must be members of the Society and should establish the need for the RES to provide funds. Preference will be given to those who will be attending high-impact international conferences and to those who cannot be funded through other sources.

The applicant must be a current Postgraduate Research (PGR) student or an Early Career (EC) Economist within five years of completing their most recent degree in economics (after taking account of any periods of maternity/paternity/sickness leave). Applicants must include a statement of support from their supervisor (postgraduate research students only).

The applicant must not have been previously awarded an RES conference grant, unless they are now an EC economist and previously had a grant as a PGR student.

Download and complete the application form from this page. Read carefully the full guidance and eligibility criteria within the form.

Once completed, please submit your application via the submit button by the relevant deadline. Results will be communicated within four weeks after the deadline. Therefore, any events or activities taking place within the four week period after the deadline, are not eligible for funding.
