Vacancy: RES Nominations and Appointments Committee

The RES Nominations & Appointments Committee seeks a replacement for Lord Gus O’Donnell, who completes his term on the committee at the end of 2022. The purpose of the Nominations & Appointments Committee is to nominate the in-coming President-Elect of the Society, agree the candidates for the annual Council ballot and appoint co-opted members of the Trustee Board. The Committee reports to the RES Council.

The Nominations and Appointments Committee will:

  • Nominate the Society’s President-Elect (who will later become President) at least one year in advance of the person taking office. In doing so, the Committee will take account of any guidance given by Council and give due regard to the nominations received from Society members. This nomination is subject to ratification by the RES Council and the Society’s Annual General Meeting.
  • Agree the list of candidates for the Society’s annual ballot for Council, again taking guidance from Council and giving due regard to nominations received.
  • Appoint co-opted members of the Society’s Trustee Board, taking into account gaps identified in the skills and knowledge of incumbent Board members and also bearing in mind diversity considerations.

The Committee comprises six of the elected members of RES Council; two Additional Members (either RES Life Vice-Presidents or independent people of standing in the economics profession); the RES President-elect and the RES Elections Officer (secretary and non-voting member). The vacancy is for one of the two Additional Member positions. Additional Members serve a three-year term, which may be renewed once.

Expressions of interest, including a CV and covering statement setting out the skills and expertise the applicant will bring to the role, are warmly invited. These should be sent via email to resoffice@res.org.uk by 10 January 2023.
