The RES’s strategy for 2024-28 makes the following commitment on publishing.
“The Society’s publications have for decades facilitated knowledge exchange between thousands of economists globally, at different career stages, and from within and outside academia. We will explore new publishing possibilities to encourage a wider diversity of authors and outputs and provide more opportunities for our members to publish their work. As the business models of academic journals change, we will grow the number of articles our journals publish in order to remain financially sustainable”.
The Publications Committee Chair plays a crucial role in leading the committee’s efforts to oversee the scholarly publishing activities of the Royal Economic Society, ensuring that the Society’s strategic and financial goals for its publications are achieved. This position involves providing strategic direction, ensuring effective communication, and fostering collaboration among committee members and with other RES activities and commitments. Reporting to the RES Trustee Board, the Chair will work closely with the Journal Editors-in-Chief and RES office staff.
Person Specification
The chair of the RES Publications Committee will be a senior economist with a strong publications record and previous experience as an editor and/or as a member of a Publications Committee. They will also bring an understanding of the financial aspects of society publishing and its importance to the overall sustainability of the organisation.

Term: Three years, commencing in October 2024.
The role is unpaid. Expenses will be reimbursed in line with the Society’s expenses policy. The RES office will provide administrative support.
