2022 Austin Robinson Memorial Prize

The RES is pleased to announce that the 2022 Austin Robinson Memorial Prize has been awarded to Erin Hengel for the article ‘Publishing While Female: Are Women Held to Higher Standards? Evidence From Peer Review.’

The Austin Robinson Memorial Prize is awarded annually for the best paper published in The Economic Journal by an author (or authors) who are within five years of receiving their PhD. The prize is awarded by the Managing Editors of The Economic Journal.

The paper was published in the November 2022 issue of The Economic Journal. You can read the full article here.

The prize was awarded to the paper for the following reasons:

  • Understanding why there are so few women in economics is important.
  • The author contributes to this debate combining new, interesting facts and a rigorous theoretical model.
  • The Managing Editors expect that the article will become a staple of PhD syllabi in gender economics and that it will be widely cited.
